TEXAS STAR AWARDS
|
The ISES Austin chapter was well-represented in Dallas at the Fourth Annual Texas Star Awards, held November 12th at the elegant Adolphus Hotel. ISES Austin Members were finalists in FIVE categories – a record for our chapter!
Best Achievement In Rental Support – Rachel Garrett of the Marquee Event Group was nominated for the Dawn Stone Wedding, a completely custom wedding installed in the pouring rain. It included nine tents to provide ceremony, dinner and dancing space for 200, installed in only eight hours.
Best Table Top Design – Matthew Gonzales of the Marquee Event Group was nominated for Pretty In Pinks, his design for the well known Kappa Settings tabletop showcase. "Pretty in Pinks" was created to get everyone thinking "PINK", branding company colors and showcasing product available for rental to the participating designers.
Best Wedding, Social, or Private Event with a budget of $500 or less per Person – Tanya Posavatz, CSEP of [clink] was nominated for a wedding in Playa del Carmen she planned from Austin. In addition to the challenges of planning long-distance, she managed to combine elements of the bride's Persian heritage with the groom's Western traditions, and still incorporate local Mexican culture.
Best Event Produced for a corporation or association under $50,000 – Tanya Posavatz, CSEP of [clink] was nominated for the Hot Pink Party, the 20th anniversary party of Austin RentAll Party held in 2005. The party incorporated a tour of the company’s new design center, expanded warehouse, and "event stations" showcasing local designers, culinary talent and items available for rental.
Best Event Design Décor with a budget under $35,000 – Tanya Posavatz, CSEP of [clink] and Melissa Soliz of BBJ Linen were nominated and WON the award for their design of the 2005 NACE Austin fundraiser, Eat-the-Heat. As co-chairs of Décor, they developed a Dante’s Inferno theme for the progressive cocktail party, with various stops representing Limbo, three Levels of the Inferno, and finally, Paradiso. The theme went beyond décor, influencing food, drink, rental, and entertainment choices for a true multi-layer design.
The Dallas Chapter of ISES hosts the Texas Star Awards — the premier Awards program dedicated to recognizing excellence in our industry, accomplished by those professionals residing within the State of Texas. We encourage even more Austin event professionals to enter next year, and congratulate all the nominees for doing our Austin chapter proud!

DEAR ISES AUSTIN MEMBERS,
Take a breath! We've made it through the enormously busy fall event season and have entered into the holiday season. Take time to reflect on all you've accomplished this year.
Our chapter has made great strides this year as well. Granted, the ISES year starts July 1, so we've only had five months to get all our big plans under way. But we've stepped up to give you more — have you stepped up your involvement?
We've launched a new website featuring a stylish new design, improved navigation, and many great new member resources. Have you visited yet?
We've incorporated your feedback from the annual survey — changing our regular meetings to the first Thursday of each month. And VP of Education/Programs Michelle Bromley and her committee have organized some great programs focused on professional development. Have you made a point of attending programs and meeting other ISES members?
We've held our first ISES community volunteering program — with Dir. of Community Relations Hope Lawrence signing up several ISES members to help support the KUT phone drive. Did you volunteer?
We successfully transitioned our new VP of Membership Kelly Cooper into the position left vacant when Linda Pope had to resign due to a new job. Kelly has been hard at work planning both the Dec 7. Membership Drive and the Dec. 15 joint Holiday Party for ISES, NACE, AWEC & MPI. Have you invited anyone to the membership drive yet?
We have already started planning our annual Fundraiser — Board members Diane Lyerly and Alanna Reed, as well as our student members, have already put initial plans into place and found a deserving charity to pair with. How can you help?
As you can see, our board has been working hard to give you exceptional value for your membership. Now it's your turn to "step up" and take advantage of what we're doing, and also make your own contribution. Click here to explore chapter volunteer opportunities.
I'd also like to challenge each of you to invite at least TWO potential members to our upcoming membership drive. See you there!
Tanya Posavatz, CSEP
President

Bringing in the New ISES Membership Year with a Bang!
By Michelle Bromley, VP of Education & Programs
Every August, ISES Austin holds its "Meet & Greet" to introduce the new Board. This year, Facility Representative Erin Murphy graciously hosted this event at the beautiful Austin Museum of Art Dowtown.
From the chic decor provided by Marquee Rents to the delicious pasta buffet provided by Alfred At Your Service, the atmosphere was electric as we discussed the great ISES vision for the new year.
VP of Communications Stacey Hoyt unveiled our newly redesigned and renovated website, designed by ISES Austin member (and new Board member!) Stephanie Malone of The Inviting Pear. Scott Valle with Complete Music provided entertainment and helped introduce each Board Member.
The Power of Branding
By Michelle Bromley, VP of Education & Programs
When you think of the Austin landmark Green Pastures, what comes to mind?
Peacocks? Lawn weddings? Historic old Austin? The associations you have with this incredible venue, the site of our October meeting, can be attributed to successful branding. And the subject of marketing through branding was the topic of our meeting.
Guests mingled on the lawn (photo at right: Mark Tidwell, Emily Rogers, Audrey Frizell, Jodi Barris) and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and sangria while classical guitarist Sean Behrens played. The elegant charm of the Cotillion Room was accented by blue and chocolate table linens from Premiere Party Rental and floral centerpieces by Northwest Hills Pharmacy and Florist.
Green Pastures owner Bob Buslett graciously welcomed us while event representative Tanya Davis was instrumental planning and executing this memorable program.
Finally, John Fisher with AVW-TELAV kindly donated the screen and sound system for our presentations.
Our first speaker was Bill Steigerwald CSEP, ISES International MARCOM Committee Chair. Bill joined us from ISES Houston to talk about ISES' branding initiative — urging us all to utilize the tools and resources provided by ISES headquarters. Using branding tools such as the new logo on your website and marketing materials helps elevate the status of the entire ISES organization while boosting your personal business credibility.
Lastly, we heard from the dynamic Ronne Rock, Director of Marketing for Austin KNVA/Austin's CW (shown in photo at right). Ronne delved deeper into the topic of branding and suggested that finding the essence of your own brand was much more important than the name of your business or the design of your logo.

Company: All About Honeymoons
We are full service travel consultants that specialize in Honeymoons and Destination Weddings. We try to work with couples 6-12 months prior to their wedding to ensure that it is the honeymoon of their dreams!
We work with a team of wedding and honeymoon experts to customize travel based on personal needs and wishes. We can arrange anything from a secluded get-away, to an exotic resort, to a European destination or a great cruise. One of the most unique items we offer our clients is a free All About Honeymoons Visa debit card which they can use to set up a free Honeymoon Registry on our website. Friends and family log on to our website to make contributions to wonderful excursions requested by the couple. We also offer a free Couples Web Site Page that allows the couple to add pictures and information about their honeymoon destination. We give each and every client our full attention and work hard to provide the best possible customer service.
Why I Joined ISES: When I started in June visiting a variety of wedding vendors, many of them informed me about ISES and all that it has to offer. Everyone stated that the group was not only very friendly, but everyone was very professional and set high standards on providing products and services to their clients. I was invited by Michael Akila as a prospective member to an ISES networking function at the beginning of July. I had a great time, met many new faces and realized by the end of the event that ISES would be a good "fit" for me. The rest is history.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my membership with ISES. I really want to help other members grow their business through referrals. I look forward to writing articles for the monthly newsletter and helping ISES grow its membership in the Austin area.

If you have an interesting story you'd like to contribute to the next ISES newsletter, or you'd like to be featured in our Member Profile section, please email com@isesaustin.com. Thank you!
