ISES Austin was well represented at ISES Eventworld 2006, An Institute For Professional Development. Eleven of our chapter members were in attendance at the conference in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Prior to the opening of the conference, ISES Board members attended ISES Leadership Meetings including International Committee Meetings (Robert DuVon is the current chair of the Certification Committee and Stacey Hoyt is currently serving on the Membership Development Committee), Round Table Discussions for Communications, Membership and Education and the Chapter President and President Elect Leadership Forum and the Regional Breakout Meeting for the Southeast Region of which Austin is a member.

The conference kicked off with a Keynote Address entitled Welcome to the Experience Economy by James H. Gilmore of Strategic Horizons LLP. The message was that the future of business depends on providing meaningful experiences for clients. This can be demonstrated my the success of companies like American Girl and Geek Squad, which provide standard products or services with an added element of interactive experience. We all know that successful events give guests full sensory experiences, but James Gilmore has translated the benefits of the experience into value for businesses of all types. It was fascinating to imagine where the future of the special events industry could be heading!

Other educational sessions followed, on topics such as "Really Cool Event Themes", "Using the Media to Promote Your Event or Business", "How to Get Published" and "Starting Your Own Event Planning Business". Our own Delores Crum presented a program called "Developing A Meaningful Marketing Plan Document and Implementing Planned Marketing Strategies". Attendees selected from thirty-three different topics to help further their education and professional development.

ISES educational conferences are a great way to refresh your skills and inspire you to new heights in your chosen field. We are proud of our membership involvement and we look forward to The Special Event Conference in Los Angeles in January and Eventworld 2007 in Montr
